EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the sleek and elegant Airspeed AS.65 Consul, registration number G-AJGF, circa 1950. The Airspeed Consul was a British single-engine, two-seat touring and training aircraft, designed and manufactured by the Airspeed Horsham Limited company. Known for its distinctive teardrop-shaped fuselage and retractable landing gear, the Consul was a popular choice among private pilots and flying clubs due to its versatility and performance. The Consul's aerodynamic design, featuring a cantilever wing and a large, rounded canopy, allowed for excellent visibility and a spacious cockpit. Powered by a de Havilland Gipsy Queen IV engine, the Consul boasted a cruising speed of around 120 mph and a range of approximately 750 miles. In this image, the Consul is shown taxing on the grass runway, its propeller turning lazily as the pilot prepares for takeoff. The sun casts a warm, golden glow over the aircraft, highlighting its graceful lines and polished finish. The surrounding landscape is dotted with trees and rolling hills, adding to the serene and idyllic setting. The Airspeed AS.65 Consul, with its timeless design and impressive capabilities, remains a beloved icon of aviation history. This photograph offers a glimpse into a bygone era of flight, when adventure and exploration were the driving forces behind the passion for aviation.
