Entertained Entertainer Henderson Klondike Lecturer Mask Masks Orator Pass Passengers Patsy Route Rush Tales Yukon Storyteller Storytelling

EDITORS COMMENTS
Patsy Henderson, a captivating entertainer and lecturer, is depicted here in her full regalia, entertaining White Pass & Yukon Route (WP&YR) train passengers in Carcross during the 1910s. Henderson, a possible member of the party that discovered gold in the Klondike in 1896, was known for her engaging storytelling sessions aboard the train. She captivated her audience with tales of the Klondike Gold Rush, sharing her firsthand experiences and knowledge of the region's rich history. In this photograph, Henderson is seen holding masks of the indigenous peoples of the region. The masks, an essential part of her performance, added authenticity to her stories and provided a visual representation of the diverse cultures that shaped the Yukon Territory. Henderson's elaborate costume, complete with a striking hat, further enhanced her presence as an orator and storyteller. The White Pass & Yukon Route train played a significant role in connecting the remote regions of the Yukon to the outside world during the gold rush era. Passengers on the train were treated to unique experiences like Henderson's storytelling sessions, which provided a glimpse into the history and culture of the Yukon. This photograph captures a moment in time when the past came alive for WP&YR train passengers, thanks to the captivating performances of Patsy Henderson.
