This photograph captures a young and radiant Wilhelmina of the Netherlands, who would go on to become the Queen of the Netherlands in 1890 at the age of eleven, following the death of her father, King William III. Taken in 1895, during her teenage years, the image shows Wilhelmina seated confidently in a high-backed chair, dressed in the formal attire of the Dutch royalty. Born on August 31, 1880, in The Hague, Wilhelmina was the eldest child of Princess Emma of Waldeck and Pyrmont and Prince Henry of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Her early years were spent in the care of her grandmother, Queen Sophie, and her governess, Baroness van Limburg Stirum. Despite the challenging circumstances of her young reign, Wilhelmina proved to be a popular and effective monarch, known for her strong leadership and dedication to her country.
