Lifeboat returning to harbour, St Ives, Cornwall
The James Stevens lifeboat in a choppy sea, returning to harbour, St Ives, Cornwall. The James Stevens No.10 was built for St Ives by Thames Ironworks in 1899. At 37.5 feet she was too long to be taken through the narrow streets of St Ives, so was delivered to Hayle and from there taken by sea to her new station. She had a successful career during her 33 years in service, launching 59 times and saving 227 human lives and 5 dogs. Date: circa 1904

Despite its unconventional journey to its station, the James Stevens No.10 went on to have a remarkable career over its 33 years of service.
