HMS Bonaventure - an Astraea-Class second-class cruiser
Royal Navy - HMS Bonaventure, an Astraea-Class second-class cruiser of the Royal Navy, ordered as part of the eight-ship Astraea class under the Naval Defence Act of 1889. She was commissioned for service in 1895, and survived to serve in the First World War. Bonaventure served in the Pacific Squadron, including service in the 3rd China War, under command of Captain Robert Montgomerie RN. She returned to Devonport in May 1906, to be paid off, but was sent to Haulbowline Dockyard, Cork, Ireland to be converted into a depot ship for submarines. This work was completed in April 1907 and she continued to serve during the First World War. Bonaventure returned to the UK, was paid off on 17 October 1919 and sold on 12 April 1920 to the Forth Ship Breaking Company, Bo'ness. Date: circa 1906

This stunning print captures the majestic HMS Bonaventure, an Astraea-Class second-class cruiser of the Royal Navy, circa 1906. Ordered as part of the eight-ship Astraea class under the Naval Defence Act of 1889, she was commissioned for service in 1895 and went on to survive through the First World War.
Under the command of Captain Robert Montgomerie RN, Bonaventure served in the Pacific Squadron, including active duty in the 3rd China War. After returning to Devonport in May 1906 for a brief period before being sent to Haulbowline Dockyard in Cork, Ireland to be converted into a depot ship for submarines. The conversion work was completed by April 1907 and she continued her service during WWI.
Following her return to the UK and subsequent decommissioning on October 17th, 1919, HMS Bonaventure was eventually sold on April 12th,1920 to Forth Ship Breaking Company in Bo'ness.
