VISUAL DESCRIPTION
The image shows an advertisement for the "Husun" Aperiodic Compass, Type no. 160, (S. O. 2 Small Pattern), by S. Smith & Sons (M. A. ) Ltd. , aviation instrument specialists located at Cricklewood Works, London, N. W. 2. The compass is described as a pilot's instrument that is mounted at eye-level with readings taken through a vertical window on the scale inside. The scale includes both black and red markings: black for every 5° and red for every 10° in blocks of larger numbers representing hundreds and fifties of the full circle (360°). It notes that the figures 0, 1, 2, and 3 are in black while smaller units are added from these as each pointer comes round. A key feature highlighted is that when the black '2' reading on the black scale reaches '20', it represents '220' degrees; similarly, a red '1' on the red scale at '80' signifies '180' degrees. The compass card itself is said to be aperiodic and suspended in an open container on sorbo buffers to prevent shock interference with accurate readings. Additionally mentioned is a magnifier mounted in front of the window to provide clearer visibility of measurements. At the bottom right corner of this monochrome advertisement is what appears to be either a logo or certification mark consisting of intertwined letters—possibly "F B A C"—encircled by wings suggesting flight or aviation association.
