VISUAL DESCRIPTION
This is a vintage advertisement for the British Thomson-Houston Co. , Ltd. , showcasing their "B. T. H. Magneto Successes" from 1919 to 1922. The image features three different models of magnetos, which are devices used to generate a high-voltage electric current for ignition in internal combustion engines. The top left shows the Type A. V. 6 magneto, followed by the Type A. V. II in the middle and the Type A. V. III at the bottom right corner. Each model appears to be robustly built with metallic finishes, indicative of early 20th-century industrial design. Accompanying these images is a list of achievements associated with B. T. H. products during those years: - In 1919, they set a British Altitude Record and had successes in various air races including London-Amsterdam and London-Manston. - In 1920, they claimed a World's Record for useful load carried and noted that B. T. H. -equipped aircraft secured first and second prizes at aerial derbies. - In 1921, they achieved multiple placements in an aerial derby again. - By 1922, more accolades were earned including firsts in an England-Derby Air Race among others. Below this list is further affirmation of their success: "This is but one week's actual land Daily by twelve B. T. H. Magnetos taken from records existing up till August last. " The company logo (BTH inside a circle) along with its address at Lower Ford Street, Coventry can be seen at the bottom center of this historical document.
