This evocative photograph captures a moment of quiet industry and camaraderie at St. Dunstan's Hospital for Blind Soldiers and Sailors during the First World War. Established in 1915, the hospital provided care and rehabilitation for soldiers and sailors who had been blinded in the conflict. In this image, a group of men are seen intently focused on their work, weaving door mats in the frame of a large loom. The door mats were one of many crafts produced by the residents of the hospital, providing them with a sense of purpose and pride, as well as generating income for the institution.
