Alexander Club in Rome - The NaFI (Navy, Army and Air Force Institute) had commandeered a department store about the size of Londons Selfridges. It was called the Alexander Club after the Allied commander Harold Alexander, 1st Earl Alexander of Tunis. Commandeered from a department store approximately the size of London's Selfridges, the club was named after the Allied commander, Harold Alexander, 1st Earl Alexander of Tunis. The Alexander Club was a sprawling complex with numerous floors, but the true gem was the Writing Rooms. Circa 1944, this photograph captures the essence of the Writing Rooms, a serene haven nestled within the bustling club.
