This haunting image captures the brutal reality of the clash between the Spanish conquistadors and the Aztec civilization in 1519. The Spanish, led by Hernán Cortés, had invaded Mexico with the intention of spreading Christianity and establishing a new colony. However, their arrival marked the beginning of a series of conflicts and cultural encounters that would forever change the course of history.
