EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite handfinished chromolithograph depicts a charming arrangement of seven beautiful flowering plants: Reevesia thyrsoidea, Lasiopetalum quercifolium, Hermannia flammea, Mahernia grandiflora, Oak-leaved Lasiopetalum (Lasiopetalum quercifolium), Thyrse-flowered Reevesia (Reevesia thyrsoidea), and Flame-coloured Hermannia (Hermannia flammea). The illustration is taken from Mrs. Jane Loudon's Ladies Flower Garden or Ornamental Greenhouse Plants, published in London by William S. Orr in 1849. The first plant in the arrangement is the Thyrse-flowered Reevesia (Reevesia thyrsoidea), characterized by its long, thyrse-like inflorescences. The second plant is the Oak-leaved Lasiopetalum (Lasiopetalum quercifolium), which boasts attractive oak-shaped leaves and pink flowers. The third plant is the Flame-coloured Hermannia (Hermannia flammea), known for its vibrant, flame-shaped flowers that add a burst of colour to the arrangement. The fourth plant is the Large-flowered Mahernia (Mahernia grandiflora), which boasts large, white flowers with pink centres. The fifth plant is the Reevesia thyrsoidea, which is characterized by its long, thyrse-like inflorescences and pink flowers. The sixth plant is the Oak-leaved Lasiopetalum (Lasiopetalum quercifolium), which is similar to the first plant in the arrangement but with different flower colour. The seventh and final plant is the Flame-coloured Hermannia (Hermannia flammea), which is also present in the arrangement but with a different perspective, showcasing its beautiful, flame-shaped flowers in greater detail. This stunning chromolithograph was created by Noel Humphreys, based on an original illustration by Jane Loudon. The intricate details and vibrant colours bring these plants to life, making this a must-have for any botanical art enthusiast or gardening aficionado.
