This exquisitely detailed hand-colored copperplate engraving captures a magnificent procession of riders from the year 1617, celebrating the birth of Duke Frederich of Wurttemberg. The image features a grand display of heraldic colors as the male and female riders gracefully ride atop a unicorn, a goat, and a horse. The unicorn, a mythical creature symbolizing purity and strength, is adorned with intricate designs and regal colors, while the goat and horse, representing the earthly realm, also bear the distinctive heraldic markings of their noble riders. The riders, dressed in the finest attire of the time, hold lances with banners, adding to the grandeur of the procession. The male rider, clad in armor, wears a crest adorned with the symbol of Firmus Amor, or the Strength of the Hearts, while the female rider dons a flowing gown and a headdress adorned with the symbol of Animarum Vita, or the Life of the Souls. This engraving is taken from Esaias von Hulsen's "Delineation und Abbildung aller furstlichen Aufzug und Ritterspielen" (Description and Representation of All Princely Processions and Tournaments) and was later included in Robert von Spalart's "Historical Picture of the Costumes of the Principal People of Antiquity and of the Middle Ages."
