This evocative photograph captures the charming exterior of the Flower of Kent Public House in Gillingham, Kent, as it looked in the 1950s. The image, taken in 1952, shows the corner view of the pub, with its distinctive tiled sign and ornate brickwork. The Flower of Kent was a popular local watering hole, owned and operated by the Charrington and Company Limited. The pub, located at ME7 1BZ, was a beloved institution in the community, drawing in patrons with its warm and inviting atmosphere. The photograph offers a glimpse into a bygone era, with its period details and nostalgic charm. The brick facade, adorned with ivy, and the large, arched windows, add to the pub's character and appeal. The tiled sign, bearing the name of the pub and the iconic flower emblem, stands proudly above the entrance. Unfortunately, the Flower of Kent Public House, like many historic buildings, did not survive the test of time. By July 2018, it had been demolished and replaced by a retail outlet delivery yard. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the history and character that once defined this corner of Gillingham, Kent.
