1960 Hoare Walbrook Boozer Deacons

This striking photograph captures the exterior of the Deacons Public House, located in Walbrook, London, during the 1960s. The image, taken from the left side, showcases the classic design of the pub with its red brick facade, ornate signage, and large windows. The Deacons PH, as it was known, was a beloved local establishment that had been serving the community since at least 1937, as evidenced by the trading record detailed on the back of this print. By the late 1950s and early 1960s, the pub was under the ownership of the Hoare and Company Limited, a well-known name in the London business scene. Unfortunately, by July 2018, the Deacons PH had closed its doors and was behind hoardings, making way for the massive Bucklersbury House redevelopment project. The demolition of the pub marked the end of an era for the historic Walbrook area, which had long been known for its vibrant pub culture. The photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the past, capturing the essence of a bygone era in London's pub history.
