EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the facade of the Crown Public House, located in the heart of Dalston, London. The image, taken from the left side, reveals the intricate details of the pub's brick exterior, adorned with ornate decorative elements and the distinctive "Crown and Anchor" emblem. The pub, which was once a beloved local watering hole, has a rich history that can be traced back to at least 1934, as evidenced by the trading record detailed on the reverse side of this print. The back of the photograph provides a glimpse into the pub's past, with the record showing its trading history through the years, including its operation in 1961. Sadly, as of July 2018, the Crown Public House, along with the surrounding street, had been demolished. The image serves as a poignant reminder of the pub's former existence and the history it held within its walls. The pub, which was once a hub of activity and community, was a familiar sight for residents and visitors of Dalston. It was known by many names over the years, including "boozer," "bar," and "ph," and was owned and operated by various companies, including Hoare and Company Limited. While the physical structure of the pub may no longer be present, the memories and stories it holds continue to live on through images like this one.
