The taking of the Battery was the task of the 9th Parachute Battalion, and despite a complicated plan that went very wrong from the first jumps at 0020 hours on D-Day, the casemates were cleared by 0500. However, the paras went on to their next objective, the high ground around Amfreville, and in their absence the German 736th Grenadiers re-occupied Merville. The following day it was taken by No 3 Commando, hence the plaque that is on the main casemate, now a Museum. Date: 2008

The following day, No. 3 Commando regained control of the battery, securing the site and ensuring the Allied advance towards Caen. The memorial plaque, which is now a museum, is a testament to the courage and determination of the British forces during the D-Day landings.
