Established in 1430 by Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, this prestigious chivalric order was open to European monarchs, high-ranking nobles, and ecclesiastical dignitaries. The knight wears a voluminous robe adorned with the emblem of the Golden Fleece, a symbol of the Order's name and origin, which represents the fleece that saved Jason from certain death in Greek mythology. The knight's uniform is completed with a white surcoat, a red sash, and a golden collar, all embellished with the Order's insignia. He also wears a tall, conical hat, known as a morion, which was a common headpiece in the Spanish army during the 1800s. The knight carries a tobacco pipe in his left hand, a popular accessory during this period, and holds a sword in his right.
