The image was captured on 21 June 1979 at Madison, during a time when the aircraft was based at Great Falls International Airport in Montana. The F-106A Delta Dart, serial number 85-CO and manufacturing serial number 8-24-61, is a remarkable interceptor aircraft produced by Convair. This specific Delta Dart served with the Montana Air National Guard until it was transferred to the Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center (AMARC) for disposal in 1987. However, the story of this aircraft did not end there. In 1995, it was converted into a QF-106A unmanned target and was unfortunately shot down by an AIM-120 missile on 22 June 1995. This photograph is a testament to the history of aviation and the evolution of military aircraft.
