This exquisitely hand-colored copperplate engraving depicts the Campion Moth, Sideridis rivularis, gracefully perched on a delicate flower. The intricate details of the moth's wings, adorned with intricate patterns and subtle shading, are beautifully rendered, as are the intricacies of the flower's petals and stamens. The Campion Moth is a member of the Noctuidae family, also known as owlet moths, and is native to Europe and Asia. The moth's life cycle is shown in the accompanying plates of this work, which were drawn and etched by Jacob L. Admiral for the second edition of "Naauwkeurige Waarneemingen omtrent de veranderingen van veele Insekten" (Accurate Descriptions of the Metamorphoses of Insects), published by J. Sluyter in Amsterdam in 1774. This edition included eight additional plates to the original 25. The meticulous observations and illustrations of the Campion Moth and other insects in this work were significant contributions to the fields of entomology and botany during the Enlightenment era.
