This chromolithograph showcases two distinctive waterfowl species, the Black East India Duck (Anas platyrhynchos) and the Black Cayuga Duck (Anas rubripes), as they were exhibited during the Victorian era. The image, created by Vincent Brooks Day & Son after an illustration by J.W. Ludlow for Lewis Wright's "The Illustrated Book of Poultry" published by Cassell, London, in 1890, transports us back to a time when the breeding and exhibition of exotic fowl was a popular pastime and ornithology was a feverish pursuit.
