1956 Bricklayers Charrington Norwood Boozer

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, taken in the 1950s, showcases the exterior of the Bricklayers Arms pub located in Norwood New Town, London. The image captures the corner view of this historic public house, with its distinctive red brick facade and ornate white detailing. The pub, which was once a proud addition to the Charrington and Company Limited's estate, exudes a sense of nostalgia and charm. At the time this photograph was taken, in 1956, the Bricklayers Arms was a thriving local watering hole for the community. However, as the years passed, changes began to take place. By December 2008, the upper floors of the building had been converted into flats, leaving the ground floor vacant. Despite the transformation of the building, the Bricklayers Arms continues to hold a special place in the history of Norwood New Town and London's pub culture. In October 2013, a planning application was submitted to convert the ground floor into two flats, but the application was ultimately refused. Today, the Bricklayers Arms stands as a reminder of the rich history of London's public houses and the role they played in shaping the fabric of local communities. This photograph, captured by The National Brewery Heritage Trust, offers a glimpse into the past and serves as a testament to the enduring allure of London's historic pubs.
