EDITORS COMMENTS
Naaman the Syrian Commander: A Story of Faith and Healing from the Old Testament This evocative image depicts the biblical story of Naaman, the Syrian commander afflicted with leprosy. Naaman's illness had left him a pariah in his own land, shunned by his people and forced to live in isolation. However, his fortunes were about to change. According to the Second Book of Kings in the Old Testament, Naaman's wife had heard of a prophet in Israel who could heal leprosy. She urged her husband to seek out this prophet, and Naaman, desperate for a cure, set out on a journey to the land of Israel. Upon arriving at the prophet's home, Naaman was met with skepticism. The prophet, Elisha, did not even come out to see him but instead sent a messenger with instructions for Naaman to bathe seven times in the Jordan River. Naaman, frustrated and disbelieving, was ready to return home empty-handed. But his servants intervened, urging him to have faith and follow the prophet's instructions. Naaman reluctantly followed the advice of his servants and went to the Jordan River to bathe. To his amazement, he was cured of his leprosy. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Naaman returned to Elisha to thank him and offer gifts. But Elisha refused, insisting that it was God who had performed the miracle. This powerful image captures the moment of Naaman's transformation, as he emerges from the waters of the Jordan River, healed and renewed. The story of Naaman is a testament to the power of faith, the importance of following God's guidance, and the healing power of water. It is a story that continues to resonate with people of all faiths and backgrounds, reminding us of the power of hope and the miraculous ways in which God works in our lives.
