1822 1891 Baroness Boscawen Evelyn Falmouth Frances Stapleton Vctss Viscount Viscountess Elizabeth

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this elegant portrait, Mary Frances Elizabeth Stapleton, later Viscountess Falmouth, is depicted in the prime of her youth. Born in 1822, she was the daughter of the Hon. George Stapleton and his wife, Harriet, and was known as Mary Vctss Stapleton at the time this photograph was taken. Mary would later marry Evelyn Boscawen, the 6th Viscount Falmouth, in 1846, becoming the Viscountess Falmouth. The portrait captures Mary's striking beauty and refined elegance. She is dressed in a high-necked, long-sleeved gown with a lace collar and a delicate floral headdress in her hair. Her expression is serene and poised, with a gentle smile playing at the corners of her mouth. At the time of this photograph, Mary was still the Baroness Le Despencer, as her marriage to Evelyn Boscawen had not yet taken place. The title of Viscountess Falmouth would come later, when her husband succeeded to the viscountcy in 1848. Mary and Evelyn had five children together: Evelyn (1847-1913), George (1848-1916), Harriet (1850-1928), Francis (1853-1914), and Constance (1855-1939). The family lived at Tregothnan, the Boscawen ancestral home in Cornwall, where Mary is said to have been a beloved and gracious hostess. Mary Frances Elizabeth Stapleton, Viscountess Falmouth, passed away in 1891, leaving behind a legacy of beauty, grace, and elegance that continues to captivate us today. This portrait is a testament to her enduring charm and the rich history of the noble families of England in the 19th century.
