Photograph taken on the wedding day of Emile Verheyen, Belgian Soldier. On the reverse is written Souvenir affecteurse de Verheyen, Emile & Gabrielle - Soul, maries le 7.6.1916 ࠒ amsgate, Angleterre. Sgt Emile Verheyen from Ghent, was a patient of the Quex Park VAD hospital between 14 November 1914 and 29 March 1915. The Quex Park VAD Hospital opened on 15 October 1914 and closed on 31 January 1919. The hospital was run by Kent/178, the Birchington Detachment. The Commandant was Hannah Powell-Cotton (1881-1964), wife of Major Percy HG Powell-Cotton (1866-1940) of Quex Park, founder of the Powell-Cotton Museum. Date: 1916

Emile, a Belgian soldier from Ghent, was a patient at Quex Park VAD Hospital in Ramsgate, England, between November 1914 and March 1915. The hospital, run by the Kent/178 Birchington Detachment, opened on October 15, 1914, and closed on January 31, 1919. Emile's commandant during his stay was Hannah Powell-Cotton, wife of Major Percy HG Powell-Cotton, founder of the Powell-Cotton Museum and resident of Quex Park. The reverse of the photograph bears the inscription "Souvenir affectueuse de Verheyen, Emile & Gabrielle - Soule, maries le 7.6.1916" (Affective Souvenir of Verheyen, Emile & Gabrielle - Soul, married on 7.6.1916).
