GLC-LFB - Former Croydon Brigade pump fire engine
The GLC-LFB was created on 1 April 1965. A series of photos was commissioned of each type of fire engine, either within or absorbed into the enlarged London Fire Brigade. The pump from Croydon fire station (H31) seen here can only be used as a pump: it could not carry a pump-escape ladder. Croydon was a small fire brigade prior to 1965 and all its fire engines were transferred into the enlarged London Fire Brigade

This photograph captures a historic moment in the London Fire Brigade's (LFB) history, featuring the former Croydon Brigade pump fire engine (H31), which was absorbed into the enlarged London Fire Brigade on 1 April 1965. The image showcases the vintage fire engine, which was specifically designed as a pump appliance and could not carry a pump-escape ladder. Prior to the formation of the Greater London Council (GLC) London Fire Brigade, Croydon Fire Station had a small fleet of fire engines. With the creation of the GLC-LFB, all Croydon fire engines, including this one, became part of the larger brigade.
