Part of the "One Hundred Varieties of Flowers" series, this work was published in Tokyo by Yamada in 1901. Higan cherry blossoms, also known as early-blooming cherry blossoms, are a beloved symbol of the changing seasons in Japan. Unlike the more famous sakura (cherry blossoms), which bloom in late March or early April, Higan cherry blossoms begin to bloom in February, providing a welcome burst of color during the winter months. The short-lived blossoms, which last only a few days, are celebrated for their delicate pink hue and sweet fragrance.
