He studied under the tutelage of esteemed artists and designers Ernst Bohm and Oskar Hadank at the Berlin Hochschule. However, the political climate in Germany was rapidly changing, and in 1937, Barschel made the courageous decision to emigrate to the United States. Settling in New York, Barschel continued to hone his craft and soon gained a reputation as a leading graphic designer. In 1964, Barschel accepted a position as Professor of Graphic Communications at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. Here, he passed on his knowledge and expertise to a new generation of designers, inspiring them with his passion for art and design. Despite the many accolades and accomplishments that marked his career, Barschel remained humble and dedicated to his craft.
