EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph, a collection of Gold, Silver, Lapis, and Obsidian Splendid Swords of the Kings, also known as the Royal Treasure of Dorak, is showcased. Discovered in 1959 during excavations led by James Mellaart, Assistant Director of The British Institute of Archaeology in Ankara, this remarkable find was unearthed in a small cemetery located on a hill slope near the village of Dorak, on the southern shore of Lake Apolyont in North-west Turkey. The site, which consisted of two Royal cist graves and two pithos burials of servants, dates back to around 3000 BC. The Splendid Swords of the Kings treasure is a stunning assemblage of weapons, primarily daggers and swords, crafted from precious metals and adorned with semi-precious stones. The Gold and Silver daggers and swords display intricate designs, while the Lapis and Obsidian pieces add an element of contrast and visual interest. The Bronze weapons, too, showcase the advanced metallurgical skills of the time. The discovery of this treasure is a testament to the wealth and power of the ancient civilization that once inhabited the region. The finds from the excavations, including these splendid swords, provide valuable insights into the culture, artistic expression, and technological advancements of the third millennium BC in Turkey. This photograph offers a glimpse into the rich history of the past, inviting us to explore the mysteries and wonders of ancient civilizations.
