EDITORS COMMENTS
Marienplatz in Munich, Germany, is a historic and vibrant central square that has been the heart of the city since the 12th century. At its northern end, standing proudly since the late 19th century, is the New Town Hall or Neues Rathaus (New Council House), a magnificent architectural masterpiece designed by Georg von Hauberrisser between 1867 and 1908. This Neo-Gothic building, with its intricate facade and towering spires, is a testament to Bavaria's rich history and artistic heritage. The New Town Hall's most iconic feature is the Rathaus-Glockenspiel, a grand clock and carillon that attracts thousands of visitors each year. The clock, which dates back to 1908, features 32 life-sized figures that reenact various scenes from Munich's history every day at 11 am, 12 pm, and 5 pm. Georg von Hauberrisser, a renowned architect of the time, designed the New Town Hall in the Gothic Revival style, which was popular during the late 19th century. The exterior of the building is adorned with intricate details, including gargoyles, frescoes, and ornate carvings. The tower, with its tall spires and colorful roof tiles, reaches a height of 91 meters and offers stunning views of the city and the surrounding Alps. The New Town Hall has served as the seat of Munich's city council since its completion in 1910. It continues to be an important symbol of the city's history, culture, and tradition, drawing visitors from all over the world to marvel at its beauty and grandeur.
