The illustration, created during the 18th century, offers a detailed and accurate representation of these natural wonders, showcasing their grandeur and majesty. The Asian elephant, the larger of the two species, is depicted here as a heavy, female mammal with long, curved tusks and large, fan-shaped ears. With a height of up to 10 feet and weighing up to 13,000 pounds, these gentle giants are the largest living land animals in Asia. The Asian elephant is an odd-toed ungulate, belonging to the family Elephantidae and order Proboscidea. Their elongated, muscular trunks are a unique feature that sets them apart from their African counterparts.
