Wall Art and Photo Gifts from Mary Evans Picture Library
Electric-blue European lobster
The strikingly coloured electric-blue European lobster was caught off the east coast of Scotland and spotted at a London fish market in November 2011. It was sent to the Natural History Museum before settling into a new home at the London Aquarium. European lobsters are dark blue with yellowish spots and cream-coloured undersides. They have huge claws - the larger is known as the crusher claw, and the other, more slender, the cutter claw. This specimen probably hatched out with this colour as a result of a rare genetic variant

1. Title: The Rare Electric-Blue European Lobster: A Spectacular Discovery from Scotland's East Coast 2.. The electric-blue European lobster, an extraordinary and captivating marine invertebrate, was discovered off the east coast of Scotland in November 2011. This striking specimen, boasting vibrant electric-blue coloration, was a rare find in the London fish market. The lobster, later identified as a European lobster (Homarus gammarus), was promptly sent to the Natural History Museum for further examination before finding its new home at the London Aquarium. European lobsters are typically dark blue with yellowish spots and cream-colored undersides. They possess two large claws, the larger one known as the crusher claw, and the other, more slender, the cutter claw. This electric-blue lobster, however, was a result of a rare genetic variant, making it a unique and valuable addition to the marine world. Belonging to the Decapoda order, the European lobster is part of the Homaridae family, which includes clawed lobsters. It is also classified under the Malacostraca class, Arthropoda phylum, Crustacea class, and Crustacea subphylum. The true lobster, Homarus vulgaris, is its common name. This rare find serves as a reminder of the diverse and fascinating marine life that exists in our oceans.
