Accompanied by his powerful uncle, Richard Duke of Gloucester, the future King Richard III, Edward's journey to the capital marked the beginning of his reign following the mysterious disappearance of his brother, King Edward IV. Edward's entrance was meant to be a triumphant display of royal authority, but the ominous presence of his uncle cast a dark shadow over the occasion.
