EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph from the 1960s, Edina Ronay, a versatile Anglo-Hungarian artist, is seen donning a harlot's costume for her role in the film "A Study in Terror," a new adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic detective series, Sherlock Holmes. Born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1944, Ronay is the daughter of renowned food critic Egon Ronay and mother of actress/writer Shebah Ronay. Edina's acting career began in the early 1960s with appearances in various films and television shows, including The Avengers, No Hiding Place, Special Branch, The Champions, and Jason King. Her charisma and talent on screen captivated audiences, making her a sought-after actress during the Swinging Sixties. However, in the mid-1970s, Ronay decided to retire from acting to pursue her passion for fashion design. She became known for her expertise in knitwear and eventually established her own company in 1984. This photograph, taken for London Life magazine in 1965, captures a pivotal moment in Ronay's career as she balanced her acting commitments with her emerging fashion design aspirations. The image showcases Ronay's allure and confidence as she poses in the provocative harlot's costume, a stark contrast to her elegant and sophisticated fashion designs that would come to define her later career. This photograph is a testament to Ronay's versatility and her ability to captivate audiences through her art, whether on screen or in the realm of fashion. This photograph is a historical treasure from the 1960s and is available for licensing through Mary Evans Prints Online. It offers a unique glimpse into the life of a remarkable artist who left an indelible mark on both the acting and fashion worlds.
