1881 Augusta Caroline Countess Edgcumbe Ernest Feilding Mount Previously Viscountess
EDITORS COMMENTS
In this beautiful photograph, taken in the year 1881, we see Countess Caroline Augusta Feilding, later known as Countess Mount-Edgcumbe, cradling her young child. The Countess, who was previously known as Viscountess Valletort, was the wife of Ernest, the third Earl of Mount-Edgcumbe. Caroline Augusta Feilding was born on December 24, 1856, into the noble Feilding family. She married Ernest, the future Earl of Mount-Edgcumbe, on April 13, 1879, at St. George's Hanover Square in London. The Mount-Edgcumbe family was one of the oldest and most distinguished families in England, with a long and illustrious history that dated back to the 16th century. In this photograph, the Countess is shown in the prime of her youth, with a radiant smile on her face as she gazes down at her child. She is dressed in the fashionable attire of the time, with a high collar, long sleeves, and a flowing skirt. Her hair is styled in an elegant updo, adorned with a delicate headpiece. The child, dressed in a white outfit, looks up at his mother with a curious expression. The setting of the photograph is a serene and idyllic one, with a beautiful garden or park in the background. The sunlight filters through the trees, casting dappled shadows on the ground. The overall effect is one of warmth, love, and happiness. This photograph is a poignant reminder of the past, capturing a moment in time that has long since passed. It offers a glimpse into the lives of the aristocracy during the late Victorian era, a time of great change and upheaval in British history. The photograph also serves as a testament to the enduring bond between a mother and her child, a bond that transcends time and circumstance.
