Clancarty at the Lyric Theatre, 1907
Tom Taylors Clancarty was first produced as Lady Clancarty at the Olympic Theatre in 1874, with Henry Neville playing Lord Clancarty and Ada Cavendish playing Lady Clancarty. The later production in 1907, at the Lyric Theatre (shown here), was just called Clancarty with an entirely different cast. Lewis Waller as Lord Clancarty and Evelyn Millard as Lady Clancarty are shown in costumes of 1696, when the play is set. A remarkably late revival at the Lyric Theatre in London on 16th April 1907. Underneath the image (which is an illustration) it states that the photo is by Ellis and Walery, so presumably the image is based on a photograph. Ellis (1854 - 1930) specialised in theatrical photography and took a leading role in protecting the copyright of photographers, fighting several cases in the High Courts. He was one of the founders of the Copyright Union
