EDITORS COMMENTS
Amidst the deafening roar of explosions on the Western Front during World War I, two weary horses stand side by side, their ears pricked in attention. One horse turns to the other, a look of concern etched on its face, and asks, "Doesn't all this noise scare you?" The second horse, with a calmness born of experience, replies, "No, I'm used to it." Before the war, these horses graced the stage at the Chatelet Theatre in Paris, where they brought the thrilling adventures of Jules Verne's "Michel Strogoff" to life. Now, their hooves tread on the battlefield instead of the theatre, their strength and courage needed to carry soldiers through the chaos of war. The year was 1917, and the sounds of gunfire and bombing were a daily reality for soldiers and animals alike. The horses, like their human comrades, had become desensitized to the constant shelling and bombardment. But even as they plodded on through the mud and the carnage, their spirits remained unbroken. This poignant cartoon captures the resilience of these animals in the face of the horrors of war. Their story is a testament to the enduring bond between man and beast, and the strength and courage that can be found even in the darkest of times.
