Lord Clyde first gained notice during the Peninsula War, a significant military campaign fought between 1807 and 1814 against the French and their allies in Iberia. Subsequently, Lord Clyde's military prowess was put to the test in the Crimean War, where he served as the Commander-in-Chief of the British Army in the Eastern Mediterranean.
