The play, based on Rafael Sabatini's 1906 novel of the same name, was a major success during the 1910s, attracting large audiences and critical acclaim. The leading man in this production was the renowned matinee idol, Lewis Waller (1860-1915), who is depicted in the photograph, exuding charm and charisma. Surrounding him are other notable cast members, including Lottie Venne, Madge Titheradge, and William Haviland, all of whom contributed to the production's success. Set in France during the reign of King Louis XIII, the period of The Three Musketeers, the play transported audiences to an era of adventure, romance, and intrigue.
