EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite handcolored lithograph showcases the captivating beauty of the Auricula Alderman Wisbey, a unique and intricately patterned variety of Auricula within the Primula family. The Auricula is a popular alpine genus, known for its rosette-shaped flowers, which bloom in various colors and patterns. The Auricula Alderman Wisbey is particularly distinguished by its striking green, black, and white rosette. The outer edges of the flower boast a bold, dark border, while the inner petals display a vibrant green hue, contrasted by delicate white veins. The center of the flower is adorned with an intricate black rosette, adding depth and complexity to its allure. This botanical illustration was drawn and lithographed by the talented Worthington G. Smith in 1872 for Henry Honywood Dombrain's Floral Magazine. Smith was a renowned architect, engraver, and mycologist, whose work graced the pages of various publications, including The Gardeners Chronicle.
