The Assiut or Asyut Barrage damming the River Nile in Egypt (seen here from downstream), about 350 miles downstream of the Aswan Dam. Designed by British engineer Sir William Willcocks, who also designed the Aswan Dam, it was built between 1898 and 1903. Date: 1902
