Originating from the pages of Abraham Rees' Cyclopedia or Universal Dictionary of Arts, Sciences and Literature, published by Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme and Brown in London in 1820, this engraving offers a glimpse into the rich history of music and its instruments. 3. The archlute (1), the central instrument in this composition, is a plucked stringed instrument with a distinctive bowed base.
