Andre Marie Jean-Jacques Dupin, also known as Andre Dupin Aine (elder), was a prominent French lawyer, jurist, and statesman of the 18th and 19th centuries. Born in Bordeaux, France, in 1783, Dupin began his legal career in the Bordeaux courts before moving to Paris to further his studies and build a reputation as a brilliant jurist. He quickly rose through the ranks of the legal profession, becoming a member of the prestigious Institute of France in 1816 and eventually serving as the President of the Court of Cassation from 1835 to 1837. Dupin's political career was equally impressive. He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1834 and served as Minister of Justice under King Louis-Philippe from 1837 to 1839. During his tenure as Minister of Justice, Dupin played a key role in drafting the new criminal code of France, which remains in effect to this day. He was also a strong advocate for the separation of powers and the rule of law, making him a respected figure in French political circles. This photograph, taken in the mid-19th century, captures Dupin in later life. The autograph below the image attests to its authenticity, adding to its historical significance. Dupin's contributions to French law and politics continue to be celebrated, making this image a valuable addition to any collection of French history or legal history.
