The image reveals three old British cruisers, HMS Thetis, Intrepid, and Iphigenia, which were filled with concrete and deliberately sunk to create a barrier in the canal. The port was a significant base for the German navy, and the British sought to disrupt their operations by blocking the entrance to the canal. Two of the cruisers, HMS Thetis and HMS Intrepid, are almost completely submerged, as it is high tide. The sinking of these ships was part of a daring and successful operation by the Royal Navy, which prevented the German High Seas Fleet from leaving its harbor and launching a major offensive in the North Sea.
