Advertisement for Sixten & Cassey of Regent Street, London, who provided many of the beautiful damasks, velvets, satins and chintz used in the May Fair Hotel and made exclusively for the interior designer, Mr C E. Muggeridge of 42 Berners Street. Sixten & Cassey Ltd was formed on 8th June 1921 by Sidney Cassey and Sixten Haymen. Prior to setting up the company Sidney Cassey had worked for Libertys in Paris (Ladies Fashion) then onto London as a Furnishing fabric buyer. Started as a wholesale business in London, dealing in woven fabrics, Italian damasks, tapestries, etc. the company was first based in Londons West End. From there they moved to premises next to the world famous London Palladium in the heart of Londons theatreland. The late Mr Charles Cassey, who had also trained as a buyer, became involved in the business due to the deteriorating health of his father Sidney. Following the Second World War, government incentives for rebuilding brought Charles Cassey to the area of the current headquarters, approximately 10 miles north of Portsmouth. The company, now based out of London and in the Hampshire countryside commenced with a print works with printing subsequently commissioned by such well know companies as Sandersons and Warners.
