Printed in 1883-84, this woodcut restrike showcases the incredible artistic talent of Hans Burgkmair, a renowned German artist from Augsburg. Measuring an impressive 18 3/8 by 23 3/4 inches (466 by 604 cm), this plate depicts Plate 95 from a series known as "Triumph des Kaisers Maximilian". Designed as a frieze to celebrate the emperor's achievements and overall program, it was developed by Johannes Stabius in 1512 and recorded by Marx Treitz Sauerwein. Although only manuscripts and text survive at Nationbibliothek Vienna, this print allows us to experience a visual representation of that grand procession.
