EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the intense and mystical scene from Jacob Cornelisz van Oostsanen's painting, "Saul Witch Endor". On the left side of the image, a powerful witch sits upon an owl throne within a magical circle, engrossed in her arcane arts. A mischievous satyr stands by her side, keeping her magic book open for reference. Meanwhile, on the right side of the frame, four women accompanied by two goats indulge in tasting various potions and brews. In this chaotic atmosphere, a devil with a winch lurks in the background. The air is filled with witches and devils soaring through the sky as they partake in their otherworldly activities. Amidst this supernatural spectacle lies King Saul himself at the witch's abode on the left-hand side of the composition. The ruins of an arch reveal glimpses of Prophet Samuel and foreshadow Saul's impending demise. Painted in 1526 by Jacob Cornelisz van Oostsanen in Amsterdam using oil paint on panel support, this artwork measures approximately 85.5 cm high and 122.8 cm wide. The painted surface itself spans 87 cm by 121.6 cm while being encased within a frame measuring 104.2 cm high by 138.9 cm wide with a thickness of 5 cm
