The second state of this artwork is featured here, as documented in the New Hollstein catalogue. Measuring approximately 7 1/16 inches by 5 3/16 inches (179 x 131 cm), this vertical panel presents an exquisite piece of Netherlandish artistry. Adriaen Collaert, hailing from Antwerp around the years 1560-1618, skillfully engraved this masterpiece after a design by Jan Collaert (1530-1581). The focal point of the pendant design is undoubtedly the sea monster effortlessly supporting Neptune on its back. This mythical creature stands tall and proud amidst swirling waves, while two nude figures flank it on either side.
