EDITORS COMMENTS
This print titled "Two Monks Looking up Dragon Tower" takes us back to the early 15th century in Italy. The scene depicts two anonymous Italian monks gazing up at a magnificent dragon tower, their eyes filled with awe and wonder. Created using pen, brown ink, brush, wash on vellum, this artwork measures 7 3/8 x 5 1/2 inches (18.7 x 13.9 cm). The drawing is loosely sketched but contains essential elements that allude to a significant story. It is believed to be inspired by the real or imaginary journey of Petrus de Cruce, an Italian pilgrim who traveled along the pilgrimage route from Damascus to Beirut. The tower itself holds great symbolism as it stands on the holy mountain where Noah built his ark according to biblical tales. This place outside Saint George's supposedly witnessed him slaying and devouring local youth. Through this image, we are transported into a world of mystery and spirituality where two popular holy sites converge in one breathtaking view. The monks' presence adds depth and reverence to the composition as they contemplate the grandeur before them. Artokoloro has beautifully captured this historical moment through their meticulous reproduction of this ancient artwork from the Liszt Collection. This print allows us to appreciate both its artistic value and its significance in religious history without any commercial use intentions involved
