Attributed to the workshop of Gerard David, a renowned Netherlandish artist from Oudewater (ca. 1455-1523), this painting is an exceptional example of his talent. Having first established himself in Bruges, Gerard joined the painter's guild in Antwerp in 1515 and quickly gained recognition for his remarkable compositions. The Adoration Magi depicts a scene where three wise men pay homage to the newborn Christ child. The composition and motifs seen here soon became popular and circulated widely during that period. This particular panel has been excellently preserved over time and bears strong resemblance to David's style.
