EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the timeless beauty of Stourhead Park in Stourton, Wiltshire. Created by Henry Hoare II between 1741 and 1780, this picturesque park is a testament to his vision and love for nature. The focal point of the park is a stunning sheet of water, created by damming the valley. In this particular image, we are treated to two iconic garden structures that enhance the dramatic views. The Palladian Bridge, built in 1762, adds an air of elegance and grandeur to the landscape. Its graceful arches perfectly complement the surrounding natural beauty. Another notable structure showcased here is the Pantheon, constructed in 1754. This architectural gem stands as a testament to classical design principles and provides visitors with a sense of awe-inspiring wonder. Photographed by Eric de Mare sometime between 1945 and 1980, this print beautifully captures not only the physical elements but also evokes a sense of tranquility and serenity that can be experienced when visiting Stourhead Park. Stourhead Park continues to enchant visitors today with its harmonious blend of man-made structures and untouched natural landscapes. It serves as a reminder that even centuries later, Henry Hoare II's vision remains intact – offering all who visit an escape into an idyllic world where artistry meets nature's splendor.
